The Carta House Deconstructed

We had a minor plumbing accident on October 3, 2006
that turned into a rather exciting week for us.

Christine made an album of some of the damage photos:

Dave put together the video:

The offending pipe!

Christine left our house for work at 8am Tuesday and
came back at 8pm to find that a water pipe had burst under
the sink and flooded every room and every floor of our house
with hundreds of gallons of water. Dave was up in Los Angeles,
putting the final days in for a project up at BP and received a
deluge of phone calls as my neighbors tried to figure out how to
turn off the water.

We were blessed that most of our furniture, photos, documents and
electronics are fine.  We were also lucky enough to rent a house
two doors away (literally!  on the same alley!) while we reconstruct.

They are currently tearing out all our hardwood floors, most walls,
the kitchen, and likely both bathrooms. The water flowed through
all three levels, only to be finally caught in the basement.  When
Christine found it, it was 6 inches deep!

This all said, we are healthy and fine.  Christine has been a
trouper and has coordinated 30 people from various companies as
they assess, respond, and evaluate the entire situation.  She is
grateful that she wasn't any more pregnant when this happened.  We
are very happy that we had good insurance.  Always get REPLACEMENT
value for home insurance with building code upgrades!  And we are
already moved into our new place, with all of our old furniture.
This Wed we get power and gas turned on and hopefully phone and
internet.  My aunt and uncle have graciously put us up at their
house in Poway for the interim as well as babysitting our fish
until we can move home.

Apparently, baby needs a new house.  And whatever baby wants....
Maybe this will also result in Christine being able to move the
washer and dryer up a level as well as Dave getting a larger kitchen.

God has provided for us resources, friends, and family that have helped
us incredibly so even such a large setback seems manageable.

Best to all.  Love,

Dave and Christine
